¿Cómo? = How?  (co-moe)

The accent is important here: Cómo with an accent over the first O usually means “how” or “how come”. Without the accent it actually means “as” or “like” (totally different word of the day). Cómo is also a colloquial way to say “what?”. And: In text messages, cómo typically gets abbreviated as "km".

As in…

  • ¿Cómo te va? = How’s it going?
  • ¿Cómo estás? = How are you? You can also say: ¿Cómo andas? =  How are you? {Literally: “How do you walk?”}
  • ¡Cómo te atreves! = How dare you!
  • ¿Cómo lo haces? = How do you do it?
  • ¡Cómo te quiero! = Oh, how I love you!
  • ¡Cómo no! = Yes, of course! {Literally: how not}
  • ¿Cómo te llamas? = What’s your name?
